Today, it seems most kids need braces to achieve that perfect smile. While that’s the case now, it definitely wasn’t years ago. That’s because over time, it became very clear that children can benefit from getting braces at a young age.
In fact, it has been seen over and over again that braces are often employed for certain reasons. Check out the five most common reasons kids will need braces below:
Loss of baby teeth
Nowadays, most water contains some fluoride, which is crucial for preventing cavities in the teeth.
Unfortunately, though, kids who are raised in places where fluoride levels are low are more likely to develop cavities.
The same goes for those kids who intake more sugar than they should daily and do not brush their teeth regularly. All of these factors are known to both weaken and damage baby teeth. While baby teeth do fall out, they are supposed to stand in place for permanent teeth.
If these baby teeth fall out too early, the adult teeth could grow in wrong, requiring the need for braces.
Difficulty speaking
Too often, children experience difficulty speaking because their teeth are not lined up right. While this may be a common issue for many children, if it’s due to the way the teeth are aligned, it could develop into something more serious as the child grows up.
For instance, the child may end up finding themselves with a lisp or other speech problems. Many of these speech defects are preventable as long as the child has braces put in, as that could be all that’s needed to get their mouths moving properly.
Impacted teeth
An impacted tooth is when a permanent tooth is growing in but not into its correct position. This can be caused by everything from crowing to a tooth growing in the wrong direction. Braces are often needed here to help the teeth grow in as intended.
Spacing
Spacing is an issue that develops in children as a result of missing teeth, tooth discrepancies and extra small teeth. While it may not sound like a big deal, it needs to be fixed with braces as spacing could cause a bite to develop that is not aligned or functioning properly.
Crowding
When a child’s teeth do not have enough room to grow in, they often erupt right from the gum. However, this issue can be avoided if expansion is performed correctly. The best way to expand the mouth is through braces.
Braces may be an essential part of nearly every child’s life, and it is typically due to many of the same issues. Once these problems are corrected through the use of braces, children are left with a smile they can be proud to show off.
