It’s already a difficult task to keep a home clean when you have other obligations, but when you’re forced to work harder to clean, the task seems nearly impossible.
Hidden elements around your home, from your water to your appliances, could be making your evenings and weekends full of cleanup efforts more difficult.
Luckily, there are ways to eliminate these things if you know they exist. Here are six things you would have never suspected would make your house dirtier than it needs to be:
Hard water
Hard water does not just dry out the skin. In addition to leaving your skin feeling less than desirable, hard water can leave residue on your dishes and shower walls and make it harder to clean dirty clothes.
If you have hard water, it is time to tackle the problem with water softeners so washing dishes, clothes, and the tub don’t have to take as long.
Dirty HVAC ducts
The HVAC vents that run through your home connect the outside unit to the vents located in your walls or floors. If your ducts haven’t been cleaned, the dirt that is sucked up through the HVAC system can find its way through the tunnels and into your home.
If you have a dusty home constantly, the problem could be dirty vents that need a thorough cleaning.
Moisture on the roof
Many people aren’t aware of the fact that leaves accumulating on the roof can be a bad thing. The accumulation leads to built-up moisture that can actually lead to mold and mildew.
If you want to reduce the risk of mold and mildew forming, you should make every effort to keep leaves and other debris off of the roof.
Rusty water heater
Your water heater may work efficiently when it warms your water, but if the basin is rusty, it could lead to stained water. Not only does rusty-colored water from the faucet look less than appealing, it can also stain your sink and tub basins and make them more difficult to clean.
You may want to invest in a water heater tune-up or purchase a solution that will eliminate the rust.
Clogged filters
Your filters are meant to prevent dirt and debris from passing through a specific piece of machinery. AC filters, water filters and others all prevent dirt from entering the air.
A clogged filter or one that needs replacement can affect the air quality in your home and leave a layer of dust.
Poor ventilation in bathrooms
When you run hot water in an enclosed space, the space gets very humid and moist. This is why it is important to have proper ventilation in the bathroom so that the humidity can be circulated outdoors.
This prevents the formation of bacteria and mold that can accumulate on walls or around bathroom fixtures.
Work smarter and not harder. By taking care of the hidden issues in your home, you can save time and money each day.
