It is more and more evident that we are leaving a permanent mark on Mother Nature, and in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, it is a good idea to go green, but not just with sustainable lifestyle choices.
Using electric cars or materials that are more environmentally friendly is, of course, a great step towards eco-friendly living, but other aspects of our lives should be considered. Have you thought about hosting a green outdoor party?
We now have many methods how to go green when hosting a garden party, and most of them require more attention to detail than actually going out and buying items.
Most importantly, to be truly green, it is important that you want to be more sustainable.
Every party needs food
The most common issue whenever hosting a good garden party is what kind of dinnerware to use. We have the favorite choice of paper plates and plastic cups, but those are perhaps the worst possible choice to make because it will take a lot of time for them to decompose, and they are deadly for the environment.
However, it is a good idea to use china or melamine plates when serving people their food. Melamine plates are a good replacement if you do not wish to use your breakable china, and also they are easy to clean. Furthermore, even though it seems like a lot of after-work, it is worth the time to clean your plates than to throw them away.
Even your cutlery has a variety of choices for any party. If you do not wish to use your own kitchenware, it is possible to get compostable cutlery, a great idea for a large party as even if you leave them around, you are doing your garden a favor.
Get some shades
Another big issue for hosting a great garden party is if you will have enough space for people to cool off, especially on hot summer days. Renting a tent might seem like a great idea, but you will have to spend a lot of time setting it all up, and sometimes, you have more work than benefit.
However, it might be a good idea to get shade umbrellas, easy-to-set-up simple covers that will help you create shade and a place under which people can socialize.
Get creative with parting gifts
Instead of sending the guests home with useless items that will clutter up their house, or with something that will soon see the recycle bin, it is far better to get creative and to present them with little packets of seeds.
If they have a green thumb, they can nurture it into a majestic decorative garden piece, which you can admire every time you visit.
On the other hand, potted plants are also a good idea as they can be more personalized and they can last for a longer time, reminding your guests what great gifts they received. Moreover, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your little plant growing into a majestic beast.
