Cats, dogs and gerbils are only some of the every day pets you see on a mundane basis. They’re adorable animals, but not everyone wants a common pet. Many people want animals that are exciting and different.
For those on the lookout for a pet that’s more extreme, here are six potential playmates to catch your fancy:
Ferrets
These curious, furry cuties are wonderfully playful and love to roll up in a ball on your lap and curl themselves into a boa around your neck. Ferrets are always up for adventure and are almost always exploring something.
They’re also really easy to train and can be kept in a roomy cage or be left to wander the house. And when it’s time for bed, they enjoy sleeping curled up on your bed with you or comfortably in a cage.
Garter snakes
For all those reptile lovers out there, try a sweet and explorative garter snake. Not only are they major fun slithering around your body, they also aren’t too difficult to care for. Make sure your tank is large enough, and include a heat mat, climbing object, water container, light and about a mouse every week for a full-size garter.
Make sure your tank is secure, though, or you will soon have a missing snake.
Sugar gliders
Sugar gliders are extremely energetic nocturnal omnivores who love to climb. These sweet marsupials with their huge eyes and tiny bodies are incredibly cuddly and a ton of fun. They’re definitely exciting creatures. They’ll roam around and glide through your home during the night making an entrancing spectacle and majestic entertainment.
Rabbits
Though they aren’t very abnormal creatures, they’re still very exciting. The fluffy, cuddly creatures are a complete thrill to watch hop and thump around, and they’re easy to care for too with some veggies and (like any other creature) time and affection. You can even outfit them with rabbit hutches from Eggshell Online.
Like ferrets, you can also either house train rabbits or just keep them in a cage. They’re easy to take care of and a ton of fun.
Hedgehog
Hedgehogs can make for adorable pets if you’re willing to put in the effort. Even though they aren’t the largest critters, they will still need a sizeable pen considering their small frames. Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures that require plenty of time out of their pens to explore.
Make sure to outfit their cage with bedding of recycled paper, a heavy water dish, a sheltered area and dry or wet hedgehog food (cat food works, as well).
Turtle/Tortoise
A turtle or tortoise can make for an excellent pet, and although their appearances are very similar, they will have specific needs for each differing species. A turtle will need a habitat with both water and land, while a tortoise will only need a water dish.
Turtles are fun to watch swim, but their tanks must be flushed and cleaned regularly, or the tank will not be the best smelling thing. Tortoises are less of a hassle because they don’t require a tank devoted to a pond section, so if you’re looking for convenience, a tortoise is the way to go.
Not every pet has to be common. There are so many exciting pets everywhere. All you have to do is take a look and find the animal that makes you happy and fits your personality.
