Stay-at-home moms are some of the busiest people on the planet. In the course of a day, they deal with numerous appointments, chores and children’s play activities. So it’s important that moms and kids have safe, quality products to provide productive experiences in the home.
It’s equally important that when things need repairing, they are time-efficient, cost effective ways to get them working again.
Leaking faucets
For a dripping faucet, an inexpensive gasket and washer kit can be found at any home improvement or hardware store. With half an hour and a wrench, this fix is easily accomplished.
To stop water from leaking around the base of your faucet, a tube of caulk is your answer. Clean out any old caulk first and apply new caulk to a dry surface, making sure not to get any caulk on the fixture. Allow caulk to cure before using the faucet again.
Dealing with Doors
If you have a little one who likes to slam doors, soften the sound by attaching some pieces of peel-and-stick foam weather stripping above and below the door latch. Voila, no more slamming door.
On the other hand, if you have a door that sticks, try tightening the screws in the latch plates and hinges. Sometimes, these may have loosened up, creating places where the door is not fitting into the frame properly.
Disposing of garbage
If the garbage disposal turns on but all it’s doing is making a loud humming sound, turn it off, press the reset button and try it again. Many times, this will do the trick. A second option is to unblock the jammed blades with an offset 5/16″ wrench.
Insert the wrench into the flywheel hole on the bottom of the disposal. Turn it clockwise to free the gears. Turn the power back on, flush with water and see if the disposal operates normally.
Fixing motorized toys
Eventually, even the best toys need repairs, especially ones with moving parts or power sources. Sometimes, these are not easy fixes for busy moms but can be done fairly quickly and inexpensively by certified service dealers.
For example, Power Wheels are battery-powered cars featuring many realistic, working parts like radios, headlights and power brakes that may require professional repair at an authorized Power Wheels service center like The Mending Shed.
Having repair work on a motorized toy completed by an authorized service center will maintain the safety of the toy while in use and usually comes with a limited warranty for the work done.
In the course of busy days, it’s nice to know there are many quick, inexpensive repairs that can be done at home with basic tools and knowledge. It’s also nice to know that when repairs do require professionals, authorized service centers are there to help.
Using these approaches will help busy stay-at-home moms and kids continue to enjoy all the activities they love to do.
