Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that can get under our skin the most. If the tangled mess of computer cables around your desk is making it hard to concentrate, it’s time for a clear-out.
Here are three easy and cost-effective ways to organize your office:
Get those wires off the floor
When you’re working at your desk, there is nothing more frustrating than getting your feet tangled in the rat’s nest of wires that’s down there. A lot of people think that they need to purchase a specialist desk to feed their wires through, but that’s not true.
Clip-on wire baskets are a great solution to keeping those cables under control. They’ll get wires off the floor and out of sight to create a much tidier work space.
Consider wireless alternatives
Going wireless is an excellent way to banish one more wire from your life. The only downside is that you have to spend a bit of money to achieve a cleaner work environment. There are a number of different products that have wireless alternatives. Keyboards, printers, mice, speakers and routers are all possibilities you could consider.
Just bear in mind that a tidy work station can come at the cost of technology performing more poorly. There is some debate on the effectiveness of wireless Internet in the home. The signal around your house is distance-sensitive, so you could experience poorer Internet speeds or connectivity if you are far from your router.
If Internet stability is something you care about, Rapid has a variety of Ethernet computer cables that come in different lengths. Measure your room before you buy, so you’re not drowning in unwanted cable.
DIY
If you want to save some money, it’s time to get creative. Find yourself a shoebox and cut some small holes on either side of it. Feed longer cables through the box and tie up the excess length in the middle. Once it’s all tied together, the excess wire can be placed in the box and put under your desk – out of sight, out of mind.
Do you have some elastic bands laying around the house? Grab as many as you can and use them to hold all your cables together. They’ll stop your wires from spreading out across the floor and becoming tangled.
