You probably had noticed I haven’t published any new posts last week. (Okay, so maybe I was the only one who noticed.) That was because I was seriously suffering from writer’s block. Yes, seriously!
And even now, I have a feeling the ability to impart what I have in mind in a coherent enough fashion somehow sort of deserted me, leaving me to stare at my blank computer screen for what seemed like forever before I finally found the right words that propelled me to position my fingers on the home keys and start a rhythm that is so like music to my ears.

It had taken me longer than usual to come up with these first few sentences.
Okay, now, suffering from the dreaded writer’s block is just half the story. More accurately – and truthfully, if I must say so – the Game of Thrones fever caught me head on that I had watched all Season 1 episodes in one day.
And in a matter of a few days, even with all the comings and goings of a usual weekend for a mother/wife/writer/dreamer/shift worker like me, I was halfway through the first book in the series.

But just to make matters clear, before Saturday morning of last week came, I already had my schedule plotted, down to the minutest detail.
I was supposed to do this and that first and then work my way through some other things I had outlined, not to mention maintenance stuff I had to do to keep my computer in excellent form.
Concentration just flew to the moon
After ticking off the first item in the agenda, unfortunately for me, moving forward became a feat bigger than my big ideas. The Game of Thrones DVD copy a colleague from work lent me for the weekend was very much in the mood to play peek-a-boo with my already scattered concentration.
It seemed the best course of action was to accept defeat and run to the DVD player, plop the disk right into it and press the play button, which I definitely did.
The Game of Thrones
I was forewarned – and rightly so – that the HBO hit series was not for children’s eyes. I excused myself from the kids, locked myself silly in the bedroom, told them I was about to watch a scary movie – which somehow it sort of was, at the beginning at least, the prologue scene being that of a chase between the men of the Night Watch and the White Walkers beyond the Wall.
Telling the kids it was scary somehow made me guilty so that when they asked again, I told them it was for old people only.
Old people only?
Ouch!
That hurt.
That seemed to have done the trick though. I wasn’t at all willing to tell them it was something I forbade them to watch because there was a chance they would become all the more curious.
Final word
In total, scary it wasn’t, but the nudity, violence and obscene language that the filmmakers deemed necessary for the series to be the success that it is was definitely not for general patronage.
Warning: If you’re of age, love period films but DON’T want to get hooked, A Game of Thrones is probably not for you. There, I already warned you.

Maricel, you know what, I’m more curious about the movie since you only give very little hint about what it is!
As for the writer’s block, I myself experienced that as well and I hate it for being such. And worse, our daily chores and unexpected events are also adding more “blocks” in our ability to write a good stuff.
And there are times too, when I think of a good topic but all of the sudden, I forgot it because I was working on other things… it’s somewhat I label as “mini-amnesia”. Tsk!

I am not really familiar with Game of Thrones, but it looks cool! I might download this in a few. Anyway, you’re not the only person who’s suffering from writer’s block, count me in! =(

@ Tristan, it’s not really a movie, but a series on HBO. It is based on A Song of Fire and Ice, the best-selling series by American novelist-screenwriter George R. R. Martin. Season 2 will be coming out in April 2012, I think.
@ JM, Game of Thrones is cool!
And I thought you guys never suffer from writer’s block because you always have new stuff every now and then. 😀

Game of Thrones is awesome, i’ve seen a couple of episodes at HBO.

@ Herbert, I agree. Awesome it is!

Oh I love Game of Thrones!! First episode was kind of “traumatic” for me because of the sex scenes. It looked like soft porn, I couldn’t watch it with my sisters. Just feels so awkward. But the storyline, my goodness!! It got me hooked too. Some episodes really keep you at the edge of your seat.
Who was your favorite character? As for me, I love Tyrion 🙂 He’s so sharp!! I love his wits. I can’t wait for season 2!!
Maricel says
@ Christina, I love Tyrion, too, and his brutal honesty. And Ned Stark and his ideals. Also, being a mom, Bran touched a nerve in me, especially after his fall. Yes, very gripping storyline … same here, can’t wait for season 2 … 😀
