My eight-year old boy asked me one day, “Mama, will you die if a cockroach bit you?”
That made me pause. “No.”
“Will you die if a spider bites you?”
I said, “It depends.” A picture of a humongous tarantula in a desert somewhere came to mind. Too much movies maybe? “Why are you asking these questions?”
“I have a classmate in school who thinks he will become Spiderman if a spider bit him. He was even chasing spiders with hand outstretched all over school just so one would bite him.”
“Hey, he’s not – or you, or any kid in school, for that matter – supposed to do that. It’s not true that a spider bite will magically turn somebody into Spiderman. That only happens in the movies, not in real life.”
He scratched his head at that, wrinkling his nose like something smelly suddenly appeared in the scene. “Of course, I know that.”
I had to hide my little smile. “Good. What did you tell your classmate then?”
My little boy shrugged. “I told him he’d be a dead man before he even became Spiderman. The way he was running around like that, there’s a chance he’d fall off the stairs and break his neck.”
Oh dear.

you’re correct … and a lot of times, their questions either make us laugh or keep us wondering ourselves … thanks for dropping by and commenting!
